In 2012 we purchased a campground called “Hospitality Woods”. The original campground was build in the late 1990’s and the prior owners, Linda and Dan McClellan ran the campground until 2009. The campground closed in 2009 and it was listed with a local realtor and it remained on the market until 2012, when we purchased the property from the McClellan’s. We closed on the property on July 1st, 2012 and Hospitality Woods became Forest Ridge Campground. At the time, the campground was situated on 26 acres. In 2021 we purchased two adjoining properties and now Forest Ridge sits on 49 acres.
Thanks to all our family and friends who helped us clean, remove trees, pick up downed limbs, paint the bathrooms and laundry room and ALL the other tasks! We officially opened on August 1st, 2012. Since then we have continuously have grown each and every year. Many of you have made Forest Ridge what it is today, a little piece of heaven on earth and we look forward to serving you in the years to come.
Many of you have asked how did “Flockamoosen Way” come about. In 2013 I was with a tree surveyor and we were surveying the property for boundary markers and the surveyor was doing a tree growth study. We were deep in the woods and we came across two moose in a bog area of the property. I went home and told my son about the moose and he said, “oh cool, a flock of moosen”. The following year, the City of Ellsworth informed me that I could no longer continue using the address of “Our Way” and after a lot of discussion, “Flockamoosen Way” became reality. Since then, a couple of people have stole my street sign, I think we have replaced it two or three times. As a matter of fact, we now sell “Flockamoose Way” street signs in our campground store! You too can purchase a sign for $20.00. Why not take a piece of Flockamoosen Way home with you!
Just like our friends from Florida did in their back yard – A piece of Flockamoosen Way, Floridian Style!
We continue to be a small, family owned business. We are not owned by a large, out of state mega corporation, like many of the surrounding campgrounds are. We thank you for supporting small business!
We are looking forward to seeing you in the future and we always look forward to seeing our returning visitors and guests.
All the Best,
Lynn and Jeff, Nathan and Hadley, Cooper (the cat, not shown) and Goose (the dog).
